Edgbaston witnessed an electrifying atmosphere with almost 20,000 fans in attendance. Even more impressively, nearly 100 million people tuned in via TV, OTT platforms, and social media to watch the “Father of All Rivalries” – India vs. Pakistan. The match fell into the legend category of cricket, and its staggering viewership numbers left many in awe. But how did the WCL (World championship of legends) achieve such remarkable success?
The first significant milestone for WCL was obtaining approval from a prestigious cricket board. They achieved this by gaining the endorsement of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), which lent credibility and legitimacy to the league.
WCL’s next move was to attract some of the biggest names in cricket. The league boasts one of the most impressive collections of players, combining both legends and current stars not contracted with their respective boards. This mix ensures a high level of competition and excitement.

Following the successful IPL formula, WCL integrated Bollywood into its fabric. Ajay Devgn is associated with the league, while Bollywood diva Jacqueline Fernandez is linked with one of the teams. This blend of cricket and Bollywood has proven to be a winning combination, enhancing the league’s appeal.
While the initial success of WCL is undeniable, it’s still early to declare it as the second biggest league after IPL. Consistency and continuity will be essential for sustaining and building upon this success.
