Media Eleven Captain Overcomes Salim Akhtar in Thrilling Final at Pakistan Social Centre Sharjah

SHARJAH, UAE –  The Azadi Badminton Cup, organized at the Pakistan Social Centre Sharjah to commemorate Pakistan’s Independence Day, concluded with a thrilling final that saw Sajjad Akbar Khan, Captain of Media Eleven and renowned PTV correspondent, emerge victorious for the sixth consecutive year.

The final match, held between Sajjad Akbar Khan and Salim Akhtar, who is associated with the Pakistan Business Council Sharjah and Sharjah Chamber of Commerce, was a nail-biting contest that kept spectators on the edge of their seats. Both players displayed exceptional skill, speed, and determination throughout the match.

A Hard-Fought Victory

The final proved to be one of the most competitive encounters in the tournament’s history. At several stages, the outcome appeared uncertain as Salim Akhtar put immense pressure on the defending champion. However, Sajjad Akbar Khan’s experience, agility, and superior technique in crucial moments allowed him to turn the tide in his favor.

The match was characterized by rapid rallies, strategic play, and remarkable sportsmanship from both competitors. Spectators and participants at the ground applauded the outstanding performance, with many acknowledging that the sixth consecutive victory further cemented Sajjad Akbar Khan’s dominance in the tournament.

Sportsmanship and Future Commitments

Despite the loss, Salim Akhtar demonstrated exemplary sportsmanship, graciously accepting his defeat. He expressed his determination to return with better strategy and preparation for future competitions.

Speaking after his victory, Sajjad Akbar Khan reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining his performance in upcoming tournaments. He also announced that he would host a celebratory dinner for his colleagues and friends using the cash prize awarded to him.

The tournament saw active participation from distinguished journalists and community members, including Kashaan Tamseel, Chief of Pardais News; Hafiz Zahid Ali from Aaj TV; Ansar Akram, Chief of News Time; and other media professionals who contributed to making the event competitive and memorable.

At the conclusion of the tournament, Chaudhry Khalid Hussain, President of Pakistan Social Centre Sharjah, presented the Azadi Badminton Cup trophy and a cash prize to Sajjad Akbar Khan.

The Azadi Badminton Cup is an important part of this effort, and we will continue organizing such competitions to promote healthy activities. I also extend my gratitude to the UAE government, and particularly the Sharjah government, for providing Pakistani community members with full facilities and freedom to organize sports activities and national events. The Pakistani community in the UAE celebrates its national festivals and Independence Day with great enthusiasm, which reflects the strong ties between the two brotherly countries and the deep connection of the Pakistani community with their homeland.”

He further emphasized that sports play a vital role in building a healthy society and serve as an effective means of bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds, fostering unity and harmony within the community.

The Azadi Badminton Cup showcased the spirit of healthy competition, community unity, and enthusiasm among Pakistanis in the UAE. The event not only highlighted sporting excellence but also served as a platform to strengthen bonds within the Pakistani community.
