Abu Dhabi: Sri Lanka’s young and talented bowler Matheesha Pathirana who is featuring in 2024 Abu Dhabi T10 for New York Strikers has put his weight behind the T10 format but believes that it is a bit tough form of the game for bowlers.

“I really wanted to say this. This was my first league as a player when I was 17. So I played my first league that was Abu Dhabi T10. I am really excited about this. It’s a pretty tough format for bowlers. It is the fastest format, so I really like it. We are also having Lanka T10. So, it’s pretty good to have a tournament of this sorts in Sri Lanka as well,” he said.

The right-handed pacer isn’t under any kind of pressure playing for the Strikers and feels this is a fresh start for the defending champions.

“Actually, I don’t have any pressure about the defending champions or other stuff because it was all history. We have to play this tournament as a fresh gas and we are just trying to do good things and that’s all,” Pathirana added.

Lavishing praise on the T10 leagues and format, the Sri Lankan player said that it will help unearth more talent. “It will help Sri Lanka to find more talent in the country.”

Pathirana was retained by the Chennai Super Kings ahead of the auction. The 21-year-old is all excited to join the franchise again and suggested that it’s “cool and nice” to be around MS Dhoni.

“I am excited about getting retained by CSK. This was my dream when I made my debut for CSK. I am really happy about that. Yeah, I really know how it will be. So I need to say again, it is really cool and nice,” he concluded.
