Shahid Afridi denies advocating for Shaheen Afridi as Pakistan Cricket Captain

KARACHI: Former Pakistan cricket captain, Shahid Afridi, has firmly refuted recent claims from a local media outlet suggesting his endorsement of Shaheen Afridi assuming the leadership of the Pakistan cricket team in the near future.

In a recent interview with a local media news channel, Afridi expressed his frustration with the dissemination of inaccurate information. “I was scrolling through my Twitter feed, and I saw that now they’re running something with my name, stating that Shahid Afridi believes Shaheen Afridi could lead the team better than Babar Azam. Lahore Qalandars won a PSL trophy under his captaincy,” Afridi clarified, dismissing the misinformation with a laugh.

The former all-rounder further conveyed his bewilderment and dissatisfaction regarding the media’s portrayal of his statements. “I don’t understand why they are making such claims, even though I express my views. I share my perspective , but they interpret it in their own way. Contrary to their assertions, I am the one who keeps Shaheen away from the captaincy,” he concluded.

It’s worth noting that specific local media sources are asserting that Shaheen Afridi might assume the role of vice-captain in the ODI and T20I teams, potentially replacing Shadab Khan. However, it should be emphasized that there is no substantiated evidence for this claim, as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not made any official declarations on the matter.
