Robots with big personalities spread joy at SIBF 2024

Visitors to the ongoing 43rd Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) were in for a treat Friday as they got to meet and greet two friendly, gigantic robots roaming the halls and lobbies, spreading smiles with their cheeky personalities. But if you missed the show then fret not because the colorful, interactive mascots – one in cool blues and the other in perky pink – are all set to create unforgettable experiences for fairgoers until the last day of the fair on Sunday.

Performing at the SIBF for the first time under the banner of Bratislava-based company, Montiki Entertainment, Veronika Dokupilova, 40, and her mother Jaroslava, 61, will walk around the halls and corridors of the SIBF as robots over eight shows – two on each of the last four days of the 12-day event – ensuring that no visitor misses the chance to meet these friendly robots.

“Our goal was to design robots that everyone would love—something cute and always smiling,” said Veronika. “We wanted them to bring joy, spread happiness, and create a warm, friendly atmosphere for everyone, young and old.”

The robots’ playful antics and vibrant design make them a favourite with families, turning every encounter into a moment of delight. For Veronika and Jaroslava, it’s about more than entertainment; it’s about making lasting memories.

“I have performed before at SIBF but this is our first time performing as these robots under our banner, and it’s been an amazing experience so far. And what makes it special for us is all the love and affection we have been getting from the young crowd,” shared Veronika.

The lively robots also drew enthusiastic reactions from onlookers.

“The pink robot is just adorable! My kids couldn’t stop giggling when it waved at them. It’s such a refreshing addition to the fair,” said Fatima Ali, a mother of two attending from Sharjah. “I’ve been to many book fairs, but this is the first time I’ve seen something like this. These robots make you feel like a kid again. It’s such a fun way to balance learning with entertainment,” shared Ahmed Karim, a university student from Dubai.

The Sharjah International Book Fair comes to a close November 17, 2024 but not before offering countless opportunities for visitors to enjoy a blend of literature, culture, and lively entertainment thanks to the likes of Veronika and Jaroslava’s friendly robots.
