Dubai, January 25, 2025: Iconic commentators and cricketing greats swapped their bats with golf clubs on a sunny Friday afternoon to tee-off alongside DP World global ambassador Tommy Fleetwood, renowned professional golfer, here at the award-winning Els Club in Dubai hosted on the sidelines of the DP World ILT20 Season 3.

Over the past editions, the DP World ILT20 Golf Day has become a regular fixture in the calendar during the month-long cricket festivities here in the UAE, providing a grand opportunity for the cricketers to enjoy the picturesque course and test their skills with the clubs.

The Golf Day witnessed DP World ILT20 cricketers Ben Dunk, Glen Chapple, Adam Rossington, Brandon McMullen, Scott Kuggeleijn and batting coach Ian Bell from Dubai Capitals tee-off at the course. Gulf Giants’ stars James Vince, bowling coach Ottis Gibson along with Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Tim Seifert, Jason Roy from Sharjah Warriorz and Michael Jones, and Adam Hose from Desert Vipers too joined the proceedings at the Golf Day.

Among the commentators and presenters were Waqar Younis, Simon Doull, Nikhil Chopra, Urooj Mumtaz Khan, Alan Wilkins and Laura McGoldrick while match officials Paul Wilson, umpire Martin Saggers and DP World ILT20 CEO David White were also present.

Speaking about his experience at the Els Club, legendary Pakistani pacer Waqar Younis, part of the star-studded DP World ILT20 commentary panel said, “Playing nine holes with ex-cricketers and current cricketers and commentators was great fun. The golf day was planned out well and it’s a good break for everyone in the middle of the tournament,” expressed Waqar.

He further added, “I have seen some very good talent shaping up in the DP World ILT20 Season 3, it’s a very good tournament and provides great platform for youngsters, particularly from UAE. Farhan Khan is an exciting player to watch, he is only 18 and has good future.”

James Vince, who will soon be shifting base to Dubai along with his family, lauded the state-of-the-art facilities at the Dubai Sports City. He said, “It’s great to play golf and take our mind off cricket for a bit. I love coming to the Els Club, the golfing facilities here in Dubai are great and I am really enjoying it. Since the time I have been coming here (Dubai) to play the DP World ILT20, I have loved being here and it was a family decision to move to Dubai. I am quite excited and looking forward to it.”

Meanwhile, Dubai Capitals’ Scott Kuggeleijn said, “It helps being out here at the golf course. Taking our minds off the game on an off day like this is always great to refresh and return to the competition. Enjoying some sun shine will do some good for us in the middle of the league. In my opinion, Adam Rossington and Ben Dunk are good golfers from my team and will have a good day out here today.”

Impressed with the cricketers show of spirit and skill on the course, Tommy Fleetwood, DP World’s global ambassador said, “I’ve had a brilliant time today (Friday), thank you to DP World for inviting me. It’s been a pleasure to meet so many DP World ILT20 players, guests and exec’s – and I hope to see you all out on the course again soon.”

Ishan Chopra, Head of Partnerships, DP World ILT20: “We are proud to have DP World as our Title Partner and jointly host this annual celebration of cricket and golf. The DP World ILT20 Golf Day is a testament to our partnership’s ethos of creating unforgettable experiences. It’s more than just a game of Golf; it’s about fostering connections, celebrating sportsmanship, and showcasing the spirit of competition in an entirely different setting. Watching world class cricketers, commentators and corporate guests competing with golf clubs instead of cricket bats adds a fun twist to the tournament.”
