Colombo:
In today’s second game against the Kandy Falcons the Colombo Strikers game-winning catch was misinterpreted which could have kept the team from making progress in the Lanka Premier League season.
Chamika Karunarathne of the Colombo Strikers was involved in an important catch-out incident during the seasons second game against Kandy Falcons. The incident was referred to the third umpire for review. The third umpire’s decision to overturn the catch was met with protests from players officials and spectators alike even though there was ample evidence to support the clean take.

Under captain Thisara Perera’s leadership, Colombo Strikers held off a formidable total of 199 in a suspenseful conclusion which culminated in a last-ball thriller successfully defending 19 runs.
When Fletcher and Haris were dismissed by Shadab Khan and Matheesha Pathirana in quick succession the game changed significantly. The stats were tipped in favour of the Strikers by Pathirana’s outstanding performance in the 17th over when he claimed three crucial wickets and his economical 19th over where he gave up just three runs.
However, In the 8th over, a spectacular one-handed catch by Chamika Karunaratne was disallowed by TV umpire Prageeth Rambukwella, sparking widespread debate and disappointment among the Strikers’ camp.
“This choice has significantly affected the perspective of the game,” said Colombo Strikers owner Sagar Khanna.
“We believe the verdict should have been in our favour because the evidence was so strong. The dispute has reignited conversations about the use of technology in cricket officiating and the need for greater consistency in the processes used to make decisions.” added Sagar Khanna
“We implore the Lanka Premier League to conduct a thorough investigation into this incident and guarantee impartiality and truthfulness in subsequent games.” said Sagar Khanna.
