Fifth installment of the acclaimed literary series brings together poetry, live ghazal performances, and distinguished guests in Ajman
AJMAN, UAE – Chai Shai Restaurant & Café in Ajman hosted its fifth Tribute Night, titled “Khushboo, Khat Aur Faraz” (Fragrance, Letters, and Faraz), honoring the legendary Urdu poet Ahmed Faraz. The evening marked another elegant chapter in Chai Shai’s journey of curating distinguished literary tribute nights across the United Arab Emirates.
The event transformed the venue into an immersive poetic experience, with every detail—from décor and ambiance to music and cuisine—meticulously designed to reflect the era and spirit of the celebrated poet.
Distinguished Guests and Dignitaries
The evening was graced by Mr. Haroon Chaudhry, Visa Consular at the Consulate of Pakistan, Dubai, along with his wife, who attended as special guests. Their presence from the beginning to the end of the program added significance to the occasion.
Poetry and Musical Performances
The mushaira (poetry session) was presided over by Dr. Subahat Asim Wasti, with Ayesha Sheikh Ashi serving as the program host. Renowned poets including Abrar Omar, Suleman Jazib, Malik Irfan, and Nilofer Afzal presented their work, each captivating the audience with their unique style and expression.
Adding a new dimension to this edition, the evening featured live ghazal singing alongside the traditional mushaira. The highly popular segment “Teht-ul-Lafz” (Under the Word), where poetry comes alive with music, was presented by Nibras Sohail and Sardar Faraz, creating an immersive experience where verses were not just heard but deeply felt.
Ali Rao and Sardar Faraz delivered soulful live performances spanning Sufi music, ghazals, and other genres, infusing the evening with renewed energy. Adeel Riaz, accompanied by tabla player Rahul, presented live ghazal renditions, completing the vision of bringing together poetry, mushaira, and ghazal under one roof.
Audience Engagement and Atmosphere
The evening witnessed remarkable audience engagement, with guests remaining until past midnight, actively participating and connecting with the poetry. The vibrant atmosphere reflected the community’s deep appreciation for literary and cultural traditions.
Special additions to the evening included paan pops created by Farah Nabeel Haider, while Sahel Videography captured the memorable moments of the night.

Continuing a Literary Legacy
Chai Shai has established itself as a distinguished venue for literary tribute nights in the UAE. The series began with a tribute to June Elia, followed by a special evening dedicated to Parveen Shakir at the Embassy of Pakistan in Abu Dhabi. Subsequent tributes honored Faiz Ahmed Faiz and Nasir Kazmi, with Ahmed Faraz being the fifth poet celebrated in this ongoing series.
