UAE Businessman Suhail Al-Zarooni Seeks Help of Pakistan Army Chief for Retrieving “Masjid-e-Sakina Sultan” from Land Grabbers https://gulftimesint.com/uae-businessman-suhail-al-zarooni-seeks-help-of-pakistan-army-chief-for-retrieving-masjid-e-sakina-sultan-from-land-grabbers/ Wed, 20 Mar 2024 09:16:03 +0000 https://gulftimesint.com/?p=5485

KARACHI, : H.E Suhail Muhammad Al-Zarooni, a prominent UAE businessman and Chairman of Al-Zarooni Group, has appealed to Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir regarding the occupation of “Masjid-e-Sakina Sultan” in the Defense Phase 8 area of Karachi, named in honor of his late mother Sakina Sultan. Mr. Zarooni urged the COAS to assist in reclaiming the mosque and to bolster the Pakistan-UAE friendship to reassure Emirati businessmen.

In a letter addressed to Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, Suhail Muhammad Al-Zarooni highlighted the construction of “Masjid-e-Sakina Sultan” in Karachi’s Defense Phase 8 in 2006, dedicated to his mother. He emphasized that funds from the UAE are regularly allocated for the mosque’s upkeep, with strict prohibition on accepting external donations. However, during his last year visit following his mother’s passing, he discovered the mosque was occupied.

“It came to his attention that the occupying group has been soliciting donations under a fake NGO bearing his mother’s name, exacerbating the situation.”

The Emirati businessman expressed frustration over the lack of progress from the Defense Housing Authority (DHA) and other relevant institutions regarding the possession of a mosque. Despite sending letters to various authorities, including the Chief of Army Staff, Corps Commander Sindh, DG Pakistan Rangers Sindh, IG Sindh, Chief Minister, and Governor Sindh, only consolations have been received. However, he acknowledged the efforts of the FIA in assisting him.

He questioned why the Defense Housing Authority has been delaying the return of the mosque’s possession for a year, said that the committee formed, led by Imran Qureshi, who occupied the mosque. He urged the Land Grabbers to acquire land from DHA and build their own mosque if they are interested in earning rewards, but to relinquish possession of the mosque to him.

Mr. Al-Zarooni underscored the significant philanthropic contributions of the UAE Royal Family throughout Pakistan, including the construction of over 1000 mosques. However, he voiced concerns that the occupation of “Masjid-e-Sakina Sultan” could deter future welfare initiatives by Emirati businessmen in Pakistan.

Expressing disappointment with the current state of affairs, Suhail Al-Zarooni reiterated his plea to Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir for intervention to regain control of “Masjid-e-Sakina Sultan” and ensure its management is transferred back to him. This, he emphasized, is vital for the continued service of Emirati businessmen towards the people of Pakistan and the advancement of welfare projects in the region.

“While I was heading to the fishing site, I saw a person wearing a life jacket in the distance being carried by waves, so I rushed to him, only to find that he had nearly drowned and was exhausted. I rescued him with help from the fishing workers who were with me, and gave him first aid,” Issa Muhammad Al Falasi told Gulf News.

The rescued people included six Indians and two Pakistanis. A total of 10 people were on the boat that was rented by them to go fishing on January 11.

Recalling the rescue operation, Al Falasi said he had set sail from Al Hamriyah Port in Dubai at 10am in the morning on a routine fishing trip where he was accompanied by two workers.

They were soon out in the sea where he saw a person wearing a life jacket, being carried away by the waves.

According to Al Falasi, he increased the speed of his boat to reach the man and pulled him on board and administered first aid to the man.

The boat captain was astonished to hear that there were nine other people out in the sea. Hearing this, Al Falasi began a search for the remaining nine by himself as he did not have phone coverage to request help from the government authorities.

In his search and rescue operation that lasted for around half an hour, Al Falasi rescued a total of eight survivors. However, two bodies were found afloat which he pulled onto his boat.

“I began the search mission, which lasted for around half an hour, in the surrounding area. I found eight people, who were frightened and exhausted. I provided them with first aid and motivated them with some words that calmed them down, and I resumed my mission to search for the remaining two people,” he said.

After all the 10 men were accounted for, Al Falasi immediately set off to the nearest Coast Guard point, who in turn communicated with concerned authorities, including Dubai Police and the ambulance.

Al Falasi is a father for four daughters and two sons. He was worked in the sea since he was seven.

Killing, Displacing Palestinians Cannot be Tolerated: Qatar Emir https://gulftimesint.com/qatars-emir-condemns-killing-and-displacement-of-palestinians/ Mon, 15 Jan 2024 03:29:38 +0000 https://gulftimesint.com/?p=5178

CAIRO: Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani has said killing of Palestinians and displacing them from their homeland cannot be accepted.

Doha-based Al Jazeera TV on Sunday reported that emir termed the Palestinian cause as an issue of principle.

The health ministry in the Gaza Strip on Sunday reported that the death toll has reached 23,968, mostly women and children, in the Palestinian territory over the course of 100 days of relentless Israeli bombardments since October 7. The ministry has recorded 60,582 wounded as a result of the continuous Israeli attacks.

Meanwhile Mads Gilbert, a physician who has worked in Gaza, talking to Al Jazeera, said today’s milestone is an opportunity to recognize the health workers who continue to put their lives in danger.

He said it is a day to salute the very brave Palestinian healthcare workers, the doctors, the nurses, the paramedics, the medical students all over Gaza who have risked and are risking their lives to alleviating the suffering of the people of the area.

According to the United Nations some 1.87 million Palestinians, over 80 percent of Gaza’s population, have left their homes because of the Israeli bombardment of the besieged enclave.

In November Qatar helped broker weeklong cease-fire of the Gaza war during which 106 Israeli captives and 240 Palestinian prisoners were freed.

The Israeli raids have almost destroyed entire neighborhoods in northern Gaza. Israeli ground troops have been facing heavy resistance from Hamas fighters in the area.
